The Spindle Bearing

A. Introduction - Machine Tool Bearings -

As we enter the 21st century, modern machine tool building, instrument making and many other technically oriented activities have changed dramatically, and it seems, almost on a daily basis. To respond and meet these challenges has required exacting and new bearing designs and materials. No longer can these higher end applications be satisfactorily met with bearings of “standard design and accuracy”. At one time the “standard” outer ring relieved design was preeminent. Applications requiring ABEC5 and ABEC7 and in some cases selected ABEC9 tolerances were the rule rather than the exception and rarely full ABEC9. However, today’s high performance machine tools require bearings that can provide cooler running, longer life, higher speeds, greater accuracies, increased stiffness and true ABEC9 tolerances. Designs using ceramic balls, smaller ball complements, relieved inner rings, asymmetrical rings and sealed bearings can comfortably accommodate virtually any application.

We provide one of the widest range of ultra precision bearings for use in machine tool and related industries. Though some of the following may require minimum quantities for production,**  we are confident that we can accommodate your bearing needs by offering a product that consistently maintains the highest quality (via extremely tight control of raceway curvatures, contact angles and preloads). All bearings, without additional costs, have bore and od deviations micron coded, high pointed faces and full bearing serialization, thus meeting requirements requiring–

extreme accuracy over the life of the bearing
very low temperature rise
long operating life
low friction
high-speed capabilities
quiet and smooth running
high rigidity
cooler running
